International driving licence
T

he Luxembourg driving licence is recognised in all Member States of the European Economic Area (EEA). Outside the EEA, some countries require that an international driving licence, which is actually a
certified translation of the national driving licence, be carried in addition to the respective driving licence.
The ACL is authorised to issue the international driving licence immediately to any person who meets the following two conditions:
- The person is the holder of a driving licence issued in a Member State of the European Economic Area (*).
- The person is resident in Luxembourg
The fees for issuing the international driving licence are €16 for ACL members (€30 for non-members).
With regard to the issuing of the international driving licence, the applicant must present himself at one of our offices in Bertrange or Ingeldorf, equipped with:
- a valid driving licence issued in a member state of the European Economic Area (*), or a recent certified copy of the original
- a current residence certificate (not older than 3 months) issued by the local municipal authority certifying your residence in Luxembourg
- a recent passport photo
The validity period of the international driving licence depends on that of the national driving licence, but in no case
exceeds 3 years (1 year for Japan).
